The tale behind the new Play Toys rainbow kiosk

Play truly is the work of childhood, and at Playtoys, endless hours are spent sourcing a beautiful mix of toy brands that inspire and encourage open ended free play in children.

Playtoys first began in 2009, in a small corner shop in the Cape Quarter in Cape Town. Inspired by a previous import boutique business, owner, Lyn Thomson’s ability to curate and style products set her apart from the big chain competitors. Her range of special wooden and educational toys are unique and sold at only a select few stores in SA. Step into any Playtoys and you are guaranteed to walk out with a gift that is powered by imagination or a toy that teaches.

With the help of her knowledgeable and passionate staff, shoppers can visit Playtoys shops in Cape Town, Pretoria and the new kiosk shopping experience in Morningside Shopping Centre. Wooden toy lovers can shop the likes of Djeco, Big Jigs and Le Toy Van. They also stock intentionally designed Tiger Tribe, Lottie, Green Toys and the much loved house hold favourite, Safari Ltd.

After 18 months of living in a pandemic, and retail not being what it used to be, Playtoys needed to freshen things up and reinvigorate their store foot print in Morningside. With the design leadership and project management of exceptional Hubo Design Studio, the concept of a rainbow felt very appropriate.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, rainbows have been the symbol of hope for children. In heavy lockdown, children drew rainbows and stuck them facing outwards for the world to see. Whether the rainbows were for their friends or telling us adults not to loose hope, a picture of a rainbow will always remind us of the children of the pandemic.

The wooden rainbow stacking puzzle is the inspiration for the coloured arches that make up the new

Playtoys store structure. The shop is for both adults and children alike. One can either enter the shop through a tunnel, or meander through the arches of the rainbow. Shoppers can explore the store and the toys in an open air, market style manner.

So to up your joy levels, visit the gorgeous new Playtoys kiosk to pick up something special for the little person in your life. Children can teach us so much about living in the moment and finding the joy in the little things. Hold them close and look for rainbows together. We look forward to welcoming you.
