Welcome to Country Meat Butchery in Morningside Shopping Centre. My name is Jaco Groot and my team and I are delighted to Meat you.

My career started off in a small butchery close to my childhood home where I helped on Saturdays and school holidays, sometimes even on afternoons after school. I enjoyed the experience a lot, but my hopes were set on playing professional cricket as a career. After completing High School though, I studied Hotel and Restaurant Management at The Swiss Hotel School in Randburg. This ignited my passion for good food and set me on my career path.

Having worked in the food industry from a young age my passion for good, healthy and wholesome food has grown and shaped my career to where I find myself today. A great cut of meat forms the center of every meal for me personally and I want all our customers to experience the joy of great food, started by a great cut of meat. 

At Country Meat we strive to offer the very best meat that we can source from the top free-range meat growers in South Africa. We believe in and support ethical farming practices, sustainable food supply and great service. 

I have been Joburg resident all my life and I love our beautiful city and its suburbs. I reside in Linden with my wife Mel and our two daughters Mia and Jana. We love the outdoors and enjoy cycling, horse riding and swimming. Leisure time is for braai’s and time spent with family and friends.
